[ personality ] As an angel of the Lord, Castiel had been created in the image of a perfect soldier; powerful, agile, knowledgeable, and seemingly dispassionate. Yet, faithful to a fault, with a deep appreciation for the Father and all His creation; it made him wholesome and gentle, when the need for battle was not present. While such qualities were considered an oddity among his siblings, it made him more valuable than any of them could realize.

The unleashing of the Apocalypse had been set in motion, and Castiel was tasked to retrieve the only man that could win this war in Heaven's favor; Dean Winchester. Reaching into Hell, the angel had raised his soul to the world of the living - a man whose humanity would affect him in ways he never thought possible. Through Dean, Castiel witnessed true devotion, and the will to do what was right, no matter the cost.

Over time, doubt of God's intentions began to surface. Castiel began to observe his brothers and sisters destroying one another, many confessing to losing faith in their Father, and some selfishly desiring glory. Confusion overtook him. Angels turning on each other surely was wrong, and someone had to take a stand; however, by going against the orders of his superiors, he would be rebelling against Heaven - and possibly, the Father he regarded so dearly.

Finding his own free will would be a trial. A lifetime of unwavering loyalty, within a system of absolute rule, he had never faced a situation in which he was required to think for himself. Unfortunately, no sooner than he considered branching out on his own, was he dragged back to heaven, and heavily reprimanded for his disobedience. Such surely set him back in his development - but it did not break him. Once discovering that it had been Heaven's plan to trigger the Apocalypse all along, Dean's guidance broke through to him, and he deserted their cause. At last, Castiel had decided to do, not what was meant of him, but what was right; he had to protect all that he'd grown to love - Dean, Sam, and God's precious creations.

Although they failed to prevent the rise of Lucifer, he did not lose faith in the Lord. All his sacrifice hadn't gone to waste; when he lost his life during the struggle, God had resurrected him. While he had turned against the wishes of his brethren, his Father saw him fit to continue in his aid of the Winchesters. This inspired Castiel find Him, wherever He may have strayed, to seek His council.

The fallen angel searched tirelessly, all while assisting Dean and Sam in attempting to bring Lucifer's plans to a halt, and prevent the rise of the Apocalypse. No matter how hopeless it seemed, Castiel truly believed that God could, and would, help them. His fealty, regrettably, would go unanswered; through a messenger, God would tell the brothers that He did not wish to speak with them, nor intervene any more than He already had. Once His words had been reached Castiel, he was unwilling to believe that they were true - at first.

By then, he had experienced doubt, sadness, and disappointment. He had learned how to been rules, and find loopholes, to deceive his brothers in Heaven. He had even sacrificed his life. After betraying all that he was built to be, he had thought that God still believed in him-- only to be left abandoned, and without faith. Castiel fell into depression, temporarily straying from their cause to "go on a bender". All that had pulled him through was Dean and Sam. They needed his assistance, and in turn, provided him support. The Winchesters had become a better family to him than he'd ever known.

Their journey, however, was wearisome; Dean nearly submitted to the demands of Heaven. To this, the angel was filled with wrath, as he laid his fists into the mortal - perhaps, to beat some sense into him. God had forsaken him, now, Dean threatened to to the same... Yet, no matter how broken the mere man had been, he had inevitably pulled through for his family. One that had accepted Castiel, and encouraged him to become more selfless; kinder.

That is why, despite events that had lead him to become powerless, and regardless of how hopeless it seemed, he had ridden with Dean into the center of the Apocalypse. Life had taken a new meaning; he'd grown to be so much more than a simple machine at the disposal of Heaven. Castiel is free; capable of making his own choices, experience the complexities of emotion, and discover the liberation of humanity. While he may be inexperienced yet, with concepts such as simple sarcasm still eluding him, he earnestly gives his all, to do right by those important to him.

† Angelic Possession :: As it is said that most mortals cannot perceive his true voice and form, Castiel requires a human vessel in order to interact on earth. This can only be done with permission of the host. (Currently, he resides in the body of Jimmy Novak, presumably dead at this point in time.)
*For the purpose of the setting, Castiel will be locked to his vessel, and be unable to show his true form beyond his wings. 

† Apporting :: With a simple touch, or at will, Castiel can teleport a subject anywhere of his choosing.

† Astral Projection :: While inside his vessel, he is capable of partially projecting his true form; his angel wings. While not physically seen, light cannot pass through them, creating shadows.

† Combat Finesse :: Even unarmed, Castiel is a skilled fighter. He has been shown to temporarily hold off those even more powerful than himself, with only his fists to rely on.

† Chronokenesis :: This allows Castiel to travel forward and backward in time; however, it is quite difficult and takes an immense toll on him. It is possible for him to travel alone, with passengers, or to send them alone. The further that the traveled from their original timeline, less time can be afforded, and it becomes increasingly difficult to return them.
*This ability will only be used with mod permission.

† Dream Walking :: This allows him to enter the dreams of another. There, he may communicate with the subject, and even deliver items to them. Under some circumstances, he may be able to bring others along. It has been said that dreams are more easily accessible to angels, in contrast to physically finding and visiting a human on earth.

† Healing :: Castiel is capable of healing wounds, disease, and even psychological damage of other beings.

† Immortality :: As an angel, he is immune to human disease. He doesn't age, nor does he require to sleep, eat, drink, or even breathe. Cursing is entirely possible, however.

† Invisibility :: Castiel is capable of making himself invisible to humans.

† Mental Manipulation :: By manipulating the mind, Castiel may create, erase, and alter memory. He may also reveal the true course of events behind a memory, beyond how the subject had perceived the situation.

† Protective Charm :: Before a subject comes to harm, his can imbue his protection over them.

† Pyrokenesis :: Castiel harnesses the ability to create fire. He is capable of manipulating it to suit him, from incinerating obstacles to taking shape around enemies. Additionally, he may extinguish these flames, at will.

† Regeneration :: Most forms of harm cannot affect Castiel. While his human form may bleed, he is capable of healing from his wounds instantaneously. Harm by an angel blade is a notable exception; a stab can harm him tremendously and delay healing, if not immediately kill him.

† Smiting :: By placing his hand upon the head of another being, he is capable of exorcising or killing them. An intense light will emit from the eyes and mouth, as it burns them from the inside out. It has been shown that he can go as far as burning through the skull, if he chooses.
*Standard rules apply to ayakashi; he will be incapable of destroying them in this way, without his god.

† Soul Reading/Channeling :: By phasing his hand through the chest of an individual, Castiel may determine the state of their soul; its condition, whether it has been branded by a deal, or if it's even present at all. In this way, he is capable of drawing from the soul to recharge and fuel his own power - or absorbing it entirely. The process is incredibly painful for the host, and requires a great deal of delicacy, for the slightest mistake might cause an immense explosion of power that would prove fatal.

† Spell Casting :: Castiel has extensive knowledge of Enochian sigils and spells, of which he can use to his advantage. It has enabled him to trap, suppress, and ward off entities even more powerful than himself.

† Resurrection :: As the name implies, Castiel is capable of bringing the dead back to life.

† Sedation :: With a simple touch, he is capable of rendering humans unconscious.

† Superhuman Intelligence:: He has been shown to display a higher understanding of mathematics and languages, among other subjects.

† Super Strength :: Among his equals, Castiel proves to be a very formidable opponent; unfortunate news, for common angels and demons. Humans cannot hope to hold up against him, as engaging in hand-to-hand combat will only hurt them, while he remains unaffected.

† Supernatural Perception/Senses ::
Sight -- Otherworldly beings, objects, and symbols cannot escape him, although invisible to humans. He can witness the "true forms" of beings. It is also possible for him to see things that are an incredible distance away, or microscopically small.

Taste -- While he can choose to eat, Castiel chooses not to, because he has the ability to taste the molecules that food is comprised of, which is apparently an unpleasant sensation. Due to their overwhelming taste, however, he is able to enjoy straight alcohol and black coffee.

Touch -- By touching alone, he is capable of many things; healing, sedating, drawing power, and locking vessels.

Sound -- It is possible for Castiel to listen in on radio frequencies, as well as understand (and speak to) animals.

Smell -- By simply smelling the remains of another, he can discover their past identity, as well as their physical state.

† Telekinesis :: Castiel can move objects, and even people, with his mind.

† Telepathy :: Having been shown to read the minds of humans and lesser angels, it could be assumed that he would capable of being able to do so on various beings who do not have advanced abilities block such invasion. Similarly, he may access memory, by simply touching the forehead of another, and concentrating.

† Vessel Locking :: By grasping onto the form of a fleeting demon, he may force one back into its vessel.

† Voice Mimicry :: He can perfectly imitate the voices of others.
